Good autumn afternoon! Lower temps and blue skies inspired twelve birders who met at Lake Creek Trail this morning. As we walked or rolled through the woods, listening to Blue Jays, Northern Cardinals, and Northern Mockingbirds, we happily noted the falling leaves and realized we were no longer hearing White-eyed Vireo, a summer bird on this trail. No winter warblers, ducks, or sparrows yet, but one Ruby-crowned Kinglet showed up.

Our best bird was probably Couch's Kingbird by the bridge who gave us great long looks. Best song was Bewick's Wren.

I am looking forward to the Yellow-rumped and Orange-crowned Warblers and all the great sparrows who winter in Texas. Bring it on! Remind me I asked for this in February, please.
